November 2023 - BarrierSystems delivers version 3 of SmartKits to its partner Consel for the first time
11/08/2023 - Thanks to increased performance of the control unit, the new SmartKit enables the control of two separate groups of barrier systems, such as when controlling access to separate roadways, each of which is controlled via its own rules and access means. The new SmartKit has 16 inputs and 6 outputs as standard, but can be upgraded to up to 128 inputs and 16+ outputs or with additional sensors (such as a noise sensor) upon customer request. There is also a further optimized design, which further increases reliability. The new SmartKit is offered at the same price as before.
June 2023 - New customer City of Baden Baden - another project with the Consel Group
06/12/2023 - As part of a major project in Baden Baden, the Swiss barrier manufacturer Consel Group is installing 13 bollard systems that regulate access to various public spaces and facilities. There are special challenges, for example the carriages that drive through the popular health resort. A separate control extension was programmed for this, which evaluates separate lowering and raising signals via radio. The remote controls can be trained and managed individually via the BarrierSystems ControlHub, so that they can be switched off individually if necessary. Thanks to the smart access management system from BarrierSystems, the city of Baden Baden can control and parameterize the bollard systems via a cloud-based ControlHub.

For Wilo SE, one of the world's leading pump manufacturers in Dortmund, realized by ZABAG Security Engineering GmbH, manufacturer of access and security systems Security systems in the outdoor area, in collaboration with BarrierSystems, a largely automated access control to allow company employees, visitors and other authorized access people to easily enter the company premises, the so-called Wilopark. In addition to control and parameterization via the cloud-based ControlHub as control software, BarrierSystems also enables vehicle detection via artificial intelligence, which recognizes fire brigade, police, etc. vehicles by their exterior. This means that these services have access even if they come from outside and their license plates are therefore not included in the system.
February 2023 - New customer City of Mannheim on the project with the Consel Group
As part of a major project in Mannheim, the Swiss... Barrier system manufacturer Consel Group installed 9 bollard systems, which regulate the access to the planks in Mannheim. This is where they play Control columns and access control play a special role, because the control column houses all the relevant control systems for the automatically retractable bollard. Thanks to the smart access management system from BarrierSystems, the The city of Mannheim can use this to control and parameterize the bollard systems via a cloud-based ControlHub. The ControlHub has in the case of Mannheim, a special interface to the city's internal software system, where authorizations and all other business cases are recorded.

January 2023 - Continuation of the BarrierSystems projects in Karlsruhe
01/09/2023 - After selling the BarrierSystem to Code Hive GmbH, the city of Karlsruhe and Code Hive GmbH have decided to continue and further develop the projects. In 2019, the city of Karlsruhe started two pilot projects together with EnBW Energie Baden Württemberg AG to calm traffic. The two partners installed smart traffic bollards in the Karlsruher Passagehof and in the Karlsruher Zirkel near the market square. These are intended to increase safety and also protect residents from too much noise. learn more...

Artificial intelligence in road traffic:
smart bollard in use in Karlsruhe
Source: Baden-TV Mediathek
06/11/2021 - Karlsruhe (mcs) The circle in Karlsruhe city center has been
designated as a bicycle street for several years.
Nevertheless, numerous drivers have repeatedly tried to pass the road -
conflicts between motorized traffic and cyclists are usually inevitable.
For this reason, the circle at Karl-Friedrich-Straße was temporarily closed to
cars with construction site elements in 2019.
Because this closure is fixed and inflexible, the circle could no longer be used
by emergency vehicles and residents.
With the so-called “smart bollards”, the city has now developed an alternative
and inaugurated it today.

THE BARRIER SYSTEMS PLATFORM
The BARRIERSYSTEMS platform consists, on the one hand, of the
SMART KIT for connecting all electrically controllable
which can be easily installed in new projects, but can also be easily and cost-effectively
retrofitted for existing systems from all manufacturers. Additionally, compatible access sensors
such as RFID readers
(near and long range), license plate recognition, PIN pad, GSM module, etc. are connected to the
SMART KIT which can be used to open the connected barrier
system if authorization is valid.
The SMART KIT is also complemented by the CONTROL HUB, which can be used to display the status of all systems in a user-friendly web interface and to configure the systems including access authorizations remotely.

Cloud-based dashboard with many features
All barrier systems are always in view and under control. The web-based BarrierSystems ControlHub serves as a control system for remote maintenance of the barrier systems and for visualizing the situation on site. For example, the system can be used to record the number of entrances or vehicles in an area and to evaluate traffic flow statistics. The BarrierSystems ControlHub also shows the current status of all barrier systems on an overview map.
Cost-effective retrofit kit for existing systems
In addition to complete systems, existing systems can also be integrated into the BarrierSystems solution thanks to our flexible and modular concept. If you already have an electronically controllable system, you can use our BarrierSystems SmartKit to subsequently digitize all commercially available, electrically controllable systems such as barriers, bollards and gates, regardless of the manufacturer, and connect them to the cloud-based BarrierSystems ControlHub. This makes it possible to get started with smart access management cost-effectively.

Dr. Albert Käuflein
Mayor of the city of Karlsruhe, among other things, for security and order as well as digitalization via BarrierSystems
With the first smart street bollard we are daring to do something new. But I am convinced that through this innovation we can better reconcile the different and often conflicting interests in road traffic and at the same time significantly improve safety in public spaces.
CEO of Consel Group AG on Consel AG's cooperation with BarrierSystems
We are convinced that no other system meets more requirements and at the same time can be expanded as desired. Together with our know-how and our smart controls, we achieve unique added value for our customers.
BARRIERSYSTEMS is currently used, among other things, for inner-city traffic control and traffic calming in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, as well as for smart access control on factory premises and employee parking lots. Photos of the respective projects are shown below. In-depth project information and case studies on the respective project can be accessed via the photos.

When implementing access management systems, we work with well-known manufacturers of barrier
systems such as ZABAG and Consel Group,
as well as reliable premium suppliers of hardware components for the SmartKit or as SmartKit
as Visual Components and Carrida license plate recognition.
With our smart access management system, we make a significant contribution to the implementation of modern digital traffic control concepts for smart cities and access management solutions for factory premises and thus contribute to increasing the quality of life and safety in inner cities and the convenience of managing access rights in companies.
With the help of a wealth of sensor-based components, as well as artificial intelligence for vehicle and license plate detection and the ability to manage barrier systems across locations online via a central system, regardless of manufacturer, we create a smart access management system that meets the requirements of modern smart cities and factory premises.
Coming from the areas of software development, electrical engineering and system integration, we are supported by a team of experts from the areas of urban planning, factory planning, traffic safety, traffic calming, traffic control systems and data protection. With this cross-functional team, we work with you to develop your individual solution for your factory premises, as well as the key challenges of modern smart city concepts.
Our smart system components enable situational control of your barrier systems and
to manage complex access routes at the individual authorization level, whether to calm
traffic or to
secure areas and places worthy of protection. And all this with full transparency via
our cloud-based CONTROL HUB.
WE GIVE YOU FULL CONTROL!
