GSM module with a German phone number

BarrierSystems is the only manufacturer whose GSM modules for barriers and bollards carry a German phone number, in the BaseLink 2.0 and in the SmartKit. A call to it from within Germany is a domestic call.

A GSM module at a barrier or a bollard turns the phone into an access method: whoever calls, opens, provided their number is stored. No badge, no key, no token that can go missing. Every member of staff, every supplier and every emergency crew already carries the device they need.

For that to work, the module needs a phone number of its own. That is the number your people dial every day, and that is where a second look pays off.

A call instead of a badge

The installation opens after a call from a stored number. Nothing to hand out, nothing to collect back in, nothing to reorder.

As the only manufacturer

A number starting with +49, in the BaseLink 2.0 as in the SmartKit. A call to it from within Germany is a domestic call and falls under the usual domestic rates.

The SIM is fitted and active

Multi-network SIM for the EU and Switzerland, activated at the factory. No mobile contract of your own, nothing to unlock before commissioning.

How opening by call works

Store the permission
The authorized person's number is entered in the ControlHub, personalized and time controlled by period, weekdays and times, for individual installations or for groups of installations.
Call
The driver dials the number of the module at the installation. The module recognizes the calling number and checks it against the permissions.
Open
If the number matches and the call falls within the permitted time window, the installation opens. The call itself is rejected by default, no conversation is established, and the caller is not charged for a call. On request, the module can be set to accept the call instead.
Trace it later
The movement is in the message archive: which installation opened when, and on which permission.

The call is one of fourteen access methods that can be weighed against each other: Access methods compared.

Why the module's own number matters

A GSM module is a mobile subscriber like any phone. Its number follows from where the SIM card is registered, and that need not be where the barrier stands.

Domestic or abroad
A call from Germany to a German number is a domestic call. A number in another EU country is not: calls to those have been capped EU-wide at 19 cents per minute plus VAT since May 2019, capped, not free, and as a rule not covered by a domestic flat rate.
What the phone system permits
Whether an extension may dial abroad at all is a matter of how the phone system is configured. Blocked international dialling is a problem at a barrier that nobody at the gate can solve.
What appears on the bill
A German number shows up in itemized bills and directories as what it is. A foreign number raises questions that somebody has to answer.
What BarrierSystems supplies
A German phone number, for every module with mobile communication, BaseLink 2.0 and SmartKit. BarrierSystems is the only manufacturer offering this for barriers and bollards.

Which devices carry a German number

BaseLink 2.0
The controller for retrofitting existing installations. 4G/LTE, 3G and 2G with an integrated multi-network SIM; DIN rail mounting, commissioning in 20 minutes. Up to 100 permissions, GSM and LTE call as an access method.
SmartKit, variant with mobile communication
The controller for new installations and larger access points. The variant with mobile communication brings LTE and the multi-network SIM along; without it, the unit runs over the network on site.
When to go without mobile
Where a network is available on site, no GSM module is needed. The call function then falls away; the other access methods remain.

What sets the two apart and when each one fits: Retrofitting barriers and bollards.

Frequently asked questions

Which phone number does the module have?
A German one, that is a number starting with +49, in the BaseLink 2.0 and in the SmartKit. A call to it from within Germany is a domestic call. BarrierSystems is the only manufacturer whose GSM modules for barriers and bollards carry a German phone number.
Does the call cost anything?
By default it does not: the module rejects the call as soon as it has recognized the number. No conversation is established, so no call charge arises. If the module should accept the call instead, it can be set up that way.
Do I need my own SIM card or a mobile contract?
No. The multi-network SIM for the EU and Switzerland is built in and activated at the factory. With the BaseLink 2.0 it is part of the delivery; with the SmartKit it belongs to the variant with mobile communication.
Who may open the installation by call?
Only whoever's number is stored, and only within the permitted time window. Permissions apply by period, weekdays and times, for individual installations or for groups of installations.
Does the installation work if the connection fails?
The controller processes the access methods locally and keeps working without an internet connection; movements are buffered and synchronized later. The call function itself, however, needs mobile coverage.
What if there is no mobile coverage on site?
Then the way is through the network on site: the SmartKit without mobile communication, connected by LAN. Access methods then include license plate recognition, RFID, QR code and radio transmitters.
Can the call be combined with other access methods?
Yes. One installation handles several access methods side by side, license plates for the core workforce, calls for suppliers, QR codes for guests. The comparison is under Access methods compared.
