Delivery zones and pedestrian zones with time windows

A pedestrian zone is rarely closed completely: suppliers may enter in the morning, residents at any time, hotel guests on arrival, market traders on market day. The access control has to map these rules per entrance and time of day instead of being one barrier for all.

In the ControlHub, access permissions are personalized and time-controlled, for individual installations or groups of installations. Trier manages permissions by installation group, time of day and special authorization this way, with fine processing for violations.

The credential follows the user group: license plate for suppliers and changing guests, RFID for permanent users, QR code for hotels, public safety radio for emergency vehicles.

Time windows per group

Deliveries get a permission for the delivery period, residents a permanent one, event organizers a temporary one. Installations can be addressed individually, in groups and in zones; a permission for one entrance does not automatically apply to the next.

Wrong vehicle detected

Heavy trucks in the pedestrian zone are a safety and liability risk. AI vehicle type recognition compares the detected type with the zone’s rules; only permitted vehicle classes gain access: vehicle type recognition.

Evidence instead of debate

The message archive logs movements per installation with a timestamp and exports as CSV or PDF. Who drove through outside the time window is on record, and violations can be turned into fine processing.

Typical rules of a city center

Residentspermanent, limited to the entrance to their own quarterlicense plate or RFID
Hotel and restaurant guestslimited to the stay, issued by the businessQR code, license plate

Emergency vehiclesat any time, without stoppingpublic safety radio, AI vehicle recognition
Special vehiclesown rule, for example the carriages in Baden-Baden with their own light signalradio, long-range RFID

Which credential suits which group is explained in access methods compared; the framework for permissions, evidence and data protection under standards and legal framework.

Time windows in practice

City of Trier
Permissions by installation group, time of day and special authorization for 23 access systems; the installations are fully automated and include fine processing: Trier reference.
City of Baden-Baden
QR code access for hotels, check-in and check-out via long-range readers, a dedicated radio extension for the spa town’s carriages; the city parameterizes the installations from the office: Baden-Baden reference.
City of Karlsruhe
Zirkel bicycle street: three installations prioritize cyclists and steer motorized traffic, residents still get through: Karlsruhe reference.
Single entrance
For a single barrier or bollard the BaseLink with any number of time schedules for opening and closing is enough, operated by app.

Questions about time windows

Can an entrance be open for suppliers in the morning only?
Yes. Permissions are time-controlled and apply to individual installations or groups. A supplier gets a license plate permission for the time window; outside it the installation stays closed for them while residents still get through.
How are violations detected?
The message archive logs every movement per installation with a timestamp and exports as CSV or PDF. Trier has set up fine processing on this basis; AI vehicle type recognition additionally reports vehicle classes that are not permitted in the zone.
Who maintains the permissions?
The administration itself, in the ControlHub from the office, as in Baden-Baden. Hotels can issue QR codes to guests, event organizers receive temporary plate lists; no on-site appointment is needed for that.
