BarrierSystems

Factory entrance with visitor management

A visitor is registered at reception or in the visitor management system, and the access follows from it: the license plate is transferred automatically as a permission into access management, the barrier opens, and nobody enters the visit a second time. That is the difference from the classic factory entrance with gatekeeper and visitor badge.

BarrierSystems is fully compatible with VISIT by ASTRUM IT; via the documented API, other visitor, ERP, CRM and fleet systems can be connected as well.

At Wilo in Dortmund, six access systems separate plant logistics and visitor traffic; license plates from VISIT are transferred automatically, and AI recognizes emergency vehicles.

Visitors

Registered in visitor management, recognized by license plate at the entrance, limited to the visit. No badge that is issued and collected, no second entry at the gate.

Employees and suppliers

RFID chip or card for employees, license plate recognition for suppliers and guests, permanent and temporary permissions managed in one place. The employee parking lot runs on the same control but with its own rules: car parks. Which credential suits which group: access methods compared.

Emergency vehicles and exceptions

AI vehicle detection recognizes fire brigade, police and ambulance from their appearance, even without a registered license plate. Occupant and trailer detection close gaps that a card alone leaves: AI-powered access control.

How access from visitor management works

  1. Registration. The visit is created in VISIT as before, with the vehicle’s license plate.
  2. Transfer. The license plate flows via the API automatically as an access permission into the ControlHub, limited to the visit period.
  3. Access. License plate recognition at the installation recognizes the vehicle, the barrier system opens; the movement is in the message archive.
  4. Exit and balance. Zone balancing records how many vehicles are on the premises; entries and exits export as CSV or PDF.
Control
SmartKit per entrance or group of installations, manufacturer-independent for barrier, bollard and gate
On-site operation
MONOLITH with license plate camera, RFID reader and intercom, in two heights so that operation from a truck is possible as well
Operation
ControlHub cloud-based or on-premise at the company: cloud or on-premise

Factory entrances in practice

Wilo SE, Dortmund, 2021
Six access systems, three entrances and three exits, with control columns at the main plant; license plates from VISIT are transferred automatically, manual intervention at the entrance is no longer necessary, together with ZABAG: Wilo SE reference.
Distinction from parking control
The parking lot has more authorized users and a lower protection requirement than the factory entrance next to it; both are mapped separately in the same system: car parks.
Plant premises as a whole
User groups, time windows and permissions for employees, service providers and suppliers: industry and plant premises.

Questions about the factory entrance

Which visitor management systems can be connected?
VISIT by ASTRUM IT is fully compatible and in use at Wilo. Other visitor, ERP, CRM and fleet systems are connected via the documented API; the data flow is the same: license plate in, permission out.
What if a visitor arrives in a different vehicle?
Then the fallback applies: intercom at the control column, manual remote access in the ControlHub or a QR code from the registration. The exception is in the message archive like every other movement.
Is an employee card enough as security?
For the factory entrance alone it only checks the validity of the badge. AI occupant detection compares the number of presented cards with the detected occupants and denies access on a mismatch; trailer detection records what is attached behind the towing vehicle.
